Julie Ashmore Dann

Business Leader, Leadership Coach & Adventurer

Julie has over 30 years’ corporate experience within financial services, most latterly as Head of SME Lending at HSBC UK. She has an MBA from Henley Management College and is an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers. Sha also has a Diploma in Company Direction from the Institute of Directors and is a qualified executive coach.

She is also an adventurer in her spare time, having skied to both North and South Poles and is a crew member for the Clipper Round the World Yacht race 17/18 edition.

She began her career in corporate banking in the UK before moving to work in the invoice finance industry. After 5 years working for the Bank of Scotland group, she became a member of the leadership team at Bibby Financial Services (BFS), part of the Bibby Line group.

During her 13 years at BFS, she played a key role in delivering a new group strategic plan. She personally led the set-up of a new venture in Poland, before moving back to the UK as Managing Director of the Bristol based subsidiary company. Finally, as UK Operations Director she led a global change programme across the UK, Europe, US and Australia.

Whilst working at HSBC UK at a senior level, Julie was also a member of the HSBC University faculty.

She has also worked extensively in the not for profit sector and has significant experience in the diversity and inclusion field, including as Chair of Balance UK, HSBCs gender network. With two school aged children, she also fully appreciates the challenge in juggling professional and family responsibilities.

Besides completing the polar double, her passion for adventure has seen Julie take part in the Tall Ships race, summit Kilimanjaro and sail 3,741 miles across the South Atlantic. She will complete a second Atlantic crossing in 2018, on-board Liverpool 2018, in the final homecoming leg of the Clipper race.

As an experienced business leader, adventurer and working mum, Julie is in a unique position to share what she has learned about leadership and teamwork, business, adventure and personal challenge.
